So, today I thought I would share an easy and frugal way to make fruit and vegetable spray! After all, countertops and floors aren’t the only things that we clean in the kitchen! Produce has to be washed, too!
I guess the first time I heard of making fruit spray this way was from my sister, and it really is so easy to make! She used lemon essential oil in her mixture, so it was a little different than mine, but either way is fine.
Before we get started, I would like to make it clear that I am not in any way an expert on essential oils, and I definitely encourage you to research them on your own. You can read my full disclaimer here. This post also contains an Amazon affiliate link, and I may receive a commission for qualifying sales. You can read my full disclosure here.
Anyway, there are fruit washes you can purchase, and feel free to do so if you like, but it is also extremely easy to make, and requires only three ingredients: water, white vinegar, and an appropriate essential oil variety. (For instance, you’re probably not going to want to spray oregano oil on your fruit and vegetables!) Vinegar and the essential oil blend I’m using are both antibacterial, which is good, considering that we want to kill whatever germs might be taking up residence on our fresh produce.
Before we get on with the “recipe,” I just want to add a quick note here about essential oil brands. I’m using Doterra’s On Guard blend in my mixture, but you can find similar blends from other companies. Just please be sure to purchase 100% pure, high quality oils no matter what company you choose. Okay, now we can move on… 😊
What you will need:
1 cup water
1 cup white vinegar
10 drops On Guard essential oil blend (or other oil of choice)
16 oz. glass spray bottle
Pour the water and vinegar into a clean spray bottle, drop the essential oil into the liquid, place the spray top on the bottle, and shake well to combine. And that’s it! Super easy, right?
Whenever you want to wash your fruit, shake up the bottle of cleaner, spray down your fruit (preferably letting it sit for a few minutes) and rinse well.
And that’s it! Now you can go mix up your own bottle of all natural spray to clean your produce!
I hope you all are doing well, and I’ll talk to you soon!
